A Formal Specification and Verification Framework for Time Warp-Based Parallel Simulation

چکیده
ÐThis paper describes a formal framework developed using the Prototype Verification System (PVS) to model and verify distributed simulation kernels based on the Time-Warp paradigm. The intent is to provide a common formal base from which domain specific simulators can be modeled, verified, and developed. PVS constructs are developed to represent basic Time-Warp constructs. Correctness conditions for Time-Warp simulation are identified describing causal ordering of event processing and correct rollback processing. The PVS theorem prover and type-check condition system are then used to verify all correctness conditions. In addition, the paper discusses the framework's reusability and extensibility properties in support of specification and verification of Time-Warp extensions and optimizations. A Formal Framework for Specifying and Verifying Time Warp Optimizations
Parallel and distributed systems are representative of large and complex systems that require the application of formal methods. These systems are often unreliable because implementors design and develop these systems without a complete understanding of the problem domain; in addition, the nondeterministic nature of certain parallel and distributed systems make system validation di cult if not ...
متن کاملSimulation Model Development and Analysis in UNITY
We evaluate UNITY – a computational model, specification language and proof system defined by Chandy and Misra [5] for the development of parallel and distributed programs – as a platform for simulation model specification and analysis. We describe a UNITY-based methodology for the construction, analysis and execution of simulation models. The methodology starts with a simulation model specific...
متن کاملWeb Service Choreography Verification Using Z Formal Specification
Web Service Choreography Description Language (WS-CDL) describes and orchestrates the services interactions among multiple participants. WS-CDL verification is essential since the interactions would lead to mismatches. Existing works verify the messages ordering, the flow of messages, and the expected results from collaborations. In this paper, we present a Z specification of WS-CDL. Besides ve...
متن کاملFormal Method in Service Composition in Heath Care Systems
One of the areas with greatest needs having available information at the right moment and with high accuracy is healthcare. Right information at right time saves lives. Healthcare is a vital domain which needs high processing power for high amounts of data. Due to the critical and the special characteristics of these systems, formal methods are used for specification, description and verificati...
متن کاملFormal verification and empirical analysis of rollback relaxation
Time Warp is the most common mechanism used for implementing optimistically synchronized Parallel Discrete Event Simulation (PDES). Rollback relaxation is an optimization to Time Warp that reduces the space and time requirements of rollback. Rollback relaxation is applicable to simulation systems that contain memo-ryless components (i.e., components whose output at any instant of time is determ...
